Ladies and gentlemen... the 1958 Bracknell Carnival Queen

Andrew Peach

Available for over a year

Joy from Sandhurst won Bracknell Carnival Queen 1958, she joined Andrew Peach in the studio, and told him the story of taking home the £50 prize whilst wearing no makeup. "You had to enter by going forward to the local paper and saying you'd like to take part. My Dad put me up for it...Bracknell was a very local quiet town, and it (the prize) was to become a Carnival Queen. "I was quiet and shy, and he (my Dad) thought it might bring my confidence up. "You had to go to lots of local dances, and I made it though to the last three. It was a very tight thing between the three of us at the end, and I think it might have been that I wasn't wearing makeup."
