Anne Diamond

Available for over a year

Why are record numbers of teachers leaving the profession? To help answer that question, Sarah Walker was joined in the studio by a panel of people with experience in education; Derek Peaple (Headteacher of Park House School) Helen Bilton (Reading University) and Katie Gumbrell (NUT in Reading.) Derek Peaple: "The passion, the enthusiasm for learning remains exactly the same, the reasons that people come into the profession to make a difference to young people's lives. "There are significant challenges around recruitment." Helen Bilton: "They are passionate, they want to teach. You get some people who are career changes and they really want to give something back to society. "After a couple of years it is just too much for them...parents will blame you for anything." Katie Gumbrell: "Conversations with colleagues is that our teaching lives now have become dominated with proving our worth."
