‘Half of UK curry houses to shut in next ten years’

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Do you enjoy a weekly Friday night tikka masala from the local curry house? Well, you may soon find them harder to come by as half of the Indian takeaways in Britain are set to close over the next decade. Yawar Khan, chair of the Asian Catering Federation who represent more than 35,000 ethnic restaurants and takeaways, says chef shortages, rising costs and lengthy menus are to blame. “We need to change with the times. We are advising our members to come up with healthier options and smaller menus, so we can attract more customers at lunch time,” he told 5 live's Anna Foster. This clip is originally from 5 live Drive on 23 February 2017.
