It is the 20th anniversary of World Book Day, a day which is devoted to encouraging children to read more. Children are encouraged to dress up as their favourite characters from books as they head into school or nursery. Children’s author Frank Cotrell-Boyce said: “If your first experience of a book is curled up with a granddad, or parent or big brother, then you have a really strong connection as opposed to decoding it in school. What’s wonderful about World Book Day is that reading aloud experience.” World Book Day is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and reading. “It’s not about being able to perform better academically, it’s about having access to happiness,” added Boyce.
