GM finalises deal on Opel sale to PSA

World Business Report

Available for over a year

The US car giant General Motors is said to be close to reaching a deal to sell its loss making European arm Opel to PSA of France. Opel, which also makes Vauxhall cars in the UK, has failed to make a profit for nearly two decades. It is thought that in the long term Opel's new owner, PSA, which makes Peugoet and Citroen cars, will have to cut jobs to revive GM's European loss maker. However as the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s Russell Padmore reports politicians and trade unions in France, Germany and the UK, are anxious to protect workers from the axe.
