Human remains found on site of former home in Tuam

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

The historian whose research uncovered human remains on the site of a former mother and baby home in Tuam in County Galway has said survivors want "decent burials" for their loved ones. Catherine Corless told 5 live: “We are hoping there are enough remains there to be taken out and identified.” “The survivors want this, they want DNA, they want proper, decent burials for their brothers and sisters.” In October 2016 the Mother and Baby ѿýs Commission of Investigation began test excavations at the site in Tuam. The commission was established following allegations about the deaths of 800 babies in Tuam and the manner in which they were buried.
