In 2009, Sarah Shourd was hiking in Iraqi-Kurdistan with her then boyfriend Shane Bauer and his friend Joshua Batall, when they say they unknowingly crossed the border into Iran. They were arrested by Iranian authorities for illegally crossing into the country and Sarah was kept in solitary confinement for 410 days in a prison in Tehran. After they were all released from prison, Sarah and her boyfriend ended up getting married. First broadcast on Short Cuts, 7 March 2017.
