Fires in Parliament could have been "catastrophic" and the building is in urgent need or repair says a Labour MP. Meg Hillier Chair of the Public Accounts Committee told 5 live: “There has been an number of fires and they really could have been catastrophic if they hadn’t been caught in time. “The building has been patched up at great expense, tens of millions of pounds a year.” The Public Accounts Committee has said delaying repairs would add to the estimated 3 and a half billion pound to the cost. Mrs Hillier added: “We really do need to get on with it.
