Cycling director: We will not sacrifice medals for welfare

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

British Cycling's new 'people director' Michael Chivers has said the body would not sacrifice medals for welfare. British Cycling has apologised for failings following accusations of bullying and sexism against top-level cyclists. Chivers told 5 live Breakfast: "The culture is high performance and challenge. Our athletes do not want to finish second," "If we can create a high-support environment... we can actually be more successful going forward. But no, we can never sacrifice the success. This makes Britain proud." This clip is originally from 5 live Breakfast on Friday 7 March 2017.
