A computer expert who helped to find the “kill switch” that stopped the spread of the first cyber-attack which affected the NHS has warned another attack "could be imminent." Darien Huss told 5 live Breakfast: “I really would not be surprised if before the next week is over we are seeing some other attack, whether that be the same ransomware or something different.” Mr Huss helped a UK security researcher, known by the pseudonym MalwareTech, to halt the spread of the malicious ransomware virus by discovering a "kill switch" in the rogue software's code. “There is a potential of this malware being re-released without the ‘kill switch,’” Mr Huss said. The malicious software encrypts files, blocking them from view and demanding a payment for them to be released. Hundreds of organisations around the world have now been affected.
