Your Call: Farron 'You have taken my vote from me'

5 Live In Short

Available for over a year

Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron is told 鈥測ou have taken my vote from me鈥 as he is grilled by voters on this morning鈥檚 Your Call. Bryher in Crystal Palace: 鈥淚 am 66 years-old and I have voted in every election as a Liberal Democrat. You have taken my vote away from me because you are trying to overturn the referendum... how dare you do that to me.鈥 William, 17, from Derbyshire wanted to know what the Liberal Democrats would do to improve the standard of education in Derbyshire. Tim Farron: 鈥淭he biggest threat to our schools is the biggest set of cuts in a generation or more. At the same time the government is mucking about with vanity projects like extra grammar schools and free schools and that is an awful lot of tax-payer鈥檚 money being spent that should be spent on your schools." Party member, Jemma in Surrey asked: "Why should a disabled person be a member of this party? We didn't exactly stop the Tories from 'kicking' the disabled? What would you do for disabled people and carers in the future?" Tim Farron: "We protected disability benefits right through the coalition. Given what the Conservatives have done this last two years, who believes they would have done that if we hadn鈥檛 absolutely forced them kicking and screaming." This clip is originally from 5 live Breakfast on Tuesday 30 May 2017.
