Grenfell resident Tiago Alvez escaped with his family from the thirteenth floor as the fire took hold. His father alerted others on their floor and helped them to safety. Tiago told 5 live Breakfast how his father was told to stay in the building after he had helped his neighbours leave their homes but didn't receive the message: "The firefighters told my mum to tell my dad to stay up there, however she didn't get in contact [with him] in time so it was pure luck [he got out].
