Alan champions Ronald Firbank's humorous novel for our Queer Icons series. Ronald Firbank (1886-1926) wrote The Flower Beneath the Foot in 1923. It's set in the fictional kingdom of Pisuerga on the eve of a royal wedding. Alan Hollinghurst's novels include The Swimming Pool Library, The Stranger's Child and The Line of Beauty, which won the Booker Prize. Extracts from The Flower Beneath the Foot are read by Simon Russell Beale.
