Hormones: They Cost How Much?

Business Daily

Available for over a year

Have pharmaceutical companies been hiking prices on life-saving drugs for pure profit? Justin Rowlatt looks at two hormonal drugs that have experienced eye-watering price increases. In the US, epipens - which are used for example to save the lives of children experiencing violent allergic reactions - there has been a public backlash against manufacturer Mylan, as the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s Michelle Fleury reports. Meanwhile, back in the UK, endocrinologist Maralyn Druce of Barts Hospital vents her fury over the 12,000% increase in the price of another drug, hydrocortisone. And investigative journalist Billy Kenber of The Times newspaper explains how he exposed the regulatory flaw that made it possible.
