As India and Pakistan celebrate their seventieth birthdays, Kavita Puri, presenter of the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ radio series Partition Voices, tells ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Minute why partition is such a fundamental part of each country's history. When British rule in India was brought to an abrupt end it led to massive upheaval. An estimated 12 million people fled their homes, and as many as one million were killed in sectarian violence, as the territory was divided into two countries.
