Inside Nelson Mandela's house

The Conversation

Available for over a year

Wayde Davy is Director of Mandela House in Soweto, which is now a museum. It was the first home the late President Nelson Mandela owned as a young man. In his autobiography, 'Long Walk to Freedom', Mandela describes returning to this house in 1990 after 27 years of incarceration. He said, "It was only then that I knew in my heart that I had left prison." Wayde describes what the house is like, and how visitors respond to it.
