A new study reports using virtual reality to study the physiology and behaviour of fish, mice and flies. The animals, rather than wearing tiny VR glasses, are immersed in an arena where they can freely move and be surrounded by projections of different objects and situations. Professor Andrew Straw from the University of Freiburg reveals some of the applications of this new promising technology.
