Summer beckons in Australia and in recent years several heat waves have turned Australia's benign summer climate into something much more intense and potentially dangerous. Indeed, research has warned that Melbourne and Sydney could be experiencing days when the temperature rises to 50 degrees celsius, within the next two decades. In this week's Reporter's Notebook Phil Mercer looks forward to what could be a long hot summer.
