Afghanistan: Will more US troops stop the Taliban?

World at One

Available for over a year

It's been a bad week, and year, for explosions, suicide attacks and kidnappings in Afghanistan. As the violence worsens in Afghanistan - carried out by the Afghan version of IS and the Taliban - President Trump has promised more US troops, but only to "kill terrorists." Four years after he was last there, the World at One's Hugh Sykes returns to Afghanistan, to assess how this new policy has gone down in the country. He speaks to a political analyst, and also a woman who lost her leg after stepping on a landmine. (Photo: Fatima from Bamiyan, who lost her leg after walking on a landmine Credit: ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½)
