Turtle doves in danger of extinction

World at One

Available for over a year

Turtle doves are the UK's fastest declining bird species and they are threatened with global extinction. Jamie Wyver is part of the team running Operation Turtle Dove, a partnership between the RSPB, the Pensthorpe Trust and Natural England. He told the World at One that "the issues [turtle doves] face are complex". Mr Wyver added that, "farmers and landowners play a crucial role" in reversing the decline and that following Brexit, the government could "incentivise farmers more" to look after wildlife on their land.
