Ahern: No-one wants physical borders

Today

Available for over a year

Bertie Ahern, the former Taoiseach (PM) of Ireland, has said he believes technology can be a partial solution to managing movements across the Irish border after Brexit. While it would be possible to make it work "in most cases", he questions its effectiveness when it comes to checking agriculture and smaller goods and says it might result in a "blind eye being turned" on occasion. The issue is one of the biggest stumbling blocks in Brexit negotiations with the EU saying they will not move onto phase two until a resolution has been agreed.
