A new book by the man who helped Alfred Wainwright become a TV star in the 1980s reveals how the fell-walker would often hide from fans behind trees. Richard Else, author of Wainwright Revealed, told Radio 4's Broadcasting House Wainwright was "a very complex person". Alfred Wainwright popularised the coast-to-coast walk across Northern England - a 192 mile pilgrimage from the Irish to the North Seas by way of three National Parks.
