The author of a new report which states too many babies are dying at birth says "there were not enough staff to deal with the number of cases coming through". Elizabeth Draper, Professor of Perinatal and Paediatric Epidemiology, led a team of academics, clinicians and charity representatives who reviewed 225 baby deaths in 2015. They concluded that in nearly 80% of deaths, improvements in care could have made a difference to the outcome.
