The former Black Rod has told the Westminster Hour that Parliament's Sports and Social bar is not a "den of iniquity" but a "very civilised place to go for a drink". David Leakey said Westminster is "a perfectly civilised working place for 99 per cent of the people for 99 per cent of the time". In a wide-ranging interview, he also discussed security, the urgent need to start restoration work on the Palace of Westminster, and reflected on his seven years in one of Parliament's most important ceremonial roles.
