Marine biologist Nan Hauser was underwater when the whale picked her up and carried her on its back for ten minutes. “I didn’t know why til I saw a giant tiger shark,” she says. Whales are known to protect other animals from shark attack, but Nan, who has been studying humpbacks for 28 years, has never known one to help a human in this way.
