Carillion: Government 'closed their eyes to the risks'

World at One

Available for over a year

Carillion, Britain's second biggest construction firm has collapsed and been placed into liquidation. It is responsible for running many of the country's public services including hospitals, prisons and the railways. Lord Adonis, who recently resigned as chairman of the government's infrastructure committee, tells Radio 4's World at One that by awarding contracts to Carillion the government "closed their eyes to the big risks" involved. He added it should face questions about why it "continued propping up this company after it had issued major profits warnings". (Photo: Cranes with Carillion branding Credit: Getty Images)
