Marijuana legal in California – what are the risks?

Health Check

Available for over a year

It’s now legal to use marijuana for recreational purposes in the American state of California. The drug is sold in brownies and gummy bears – not just in tobacco. There are many claims for benefits like pain relief and better sleep. Health Check reporter Alison van Diggelen talked to Professor Westley Clark, who’s an expert in psychotic substances and behavioural health at Santa Clara University, about how safe the drug is and what the risks are. She also went along to a tea party, hosted by one of the investors in Kikoko – who make a tea laced with microdoses of marijuana. (Image: Tea Party: Credit: Kathleen Harrison.)
