Looking back at former UK Prime Ministers

Westminster Hour

Available for over a year

Since Robert Walpole first took up the position on 4 April 1721, 52 men and two women have held the office of UK Prime Minister. Journalist and author Andrew Gimson has written a book - Gimson’s Prime Ministers: Brief Lives from Walpole to May - which looks at each of them. Delving back into almost 300 years of British leaders with The Westminster Hour's John Beesley, he discussed some of his favourite stories from 18th century aristocrat Lord North to giants of modern political history such as Margaret Thatcher and Tony Blair.
