'Cricketers have always cheated' - former Test umpire

Stumped

Available for over a year

Former umpire John Holder recalls accusing England of ball-tampering during a Test match against West Indies in 1991. England denied wrongdoing. Holder says the practice was rife during his time as an international umpire between 1988 and 2001. He was speaking to Alison Mitchell after Australian trio Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft were banned for tampering with the ball to gain an illegal advantage in the third Test against South Africa in Cape Town.
