ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Minute: On Kendrick Lamar

ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Minute

Available for over a year

Rapper Kendrick Lamar has made history by becoming the first non-classical or jazz artist to win the Pulitzer Prize for music. The 30-year-old from California won the award for his album Damn, which was released last year. The Pulitzer prize is best known for recognising US journalism, but it also gives awards for books, poetry and music. The organisers said Kendrick Lamar's album offered accounts that captured 'the complexity of modern African-American life'. ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Minute talks to DJ Yasmin Evans who presents on urban radio station, ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ 1Xtra, to find out why this is such a big moment for hip-hop music.
