Dave & Martyn: The Meaning Of Spurn

The Listening Project

Available for over a year

Between them Dave and Martyn have clocked up more than 40 years living and working together on a remote peninsular of East Yorkshire. As experienced coxswains of the RNLI's Humber Lifeboat based on Spurn Point they have seen many changes. Most notable of which, being the removal of the small, permanent community of crew and their families, for safety reasons. Now another sea-change is about to make them feel oceans apart. Martyn has accepted another position with the RNLI that will potentially take him all over the country. Recorded in the Listening Project booth on site at Spurn they discuss how things have changed and the difficulty of leaving such a unique place. Produced by Clare Crooks
