John & Lynn: The Murder Next Door

The Listening Project

Available for over a year

Neighbours don't always got on but that's not the case for Lynn despite a dark past next door. John pushed his mother down the stairs and was convicted of her murder in 1985. He says he snapped following years of abuse. His neighbour Lynn thinks, given the circumstances, he wouldn't be charged with murder if the same thing happen today. They have lived next door to each other in Hull for a few years now but Lynn knew of John long before that because she lives next door to the "murder house". John moved back into his childhood home after his dad died, having served 18 years in prison. He now uses his experience to help others. Recorded in the Listening Project's booth during Hull's year as City of Culture, John & Lynn share what it's like living with his past. Produced by Clare Crooks
