"I went through my inbox; found it; read it and begged for the role." Shailene Woodley on nearly missing the script for Adrift

The actor remembers nearly missing out on the script to her new film, Adrift, because she'd been arrested for protesting against the Dakota Access Pipeline. Fortunately Shailene did get to portray the indomitable sailor Tami Oldham - a young women who spent 41 days adrift in the Pacific Ocean after Hurricane Raymond - in a film that was largely shot in the open water of Fiji. This setting brought daily challenges, but also "tiny little miracles", not least the fact that she still gets on with co-star Sam Claflin after spending so much time "stuck in a boat" with him! As she was leaving our studio, to jump on a plane and fly back to the set of Big Little Lies, we had to ask about the second season of this award-winning television show. With Meryl Streep added to the cast, Shailene reveals that although the multiple Oscar winner is an undisputed "goddess", she's also a "normal human being" who enjoyed working with a group of women who "support one another and hang out, outside of work." And, although we didn't get any plot teasers, Shailene confirmed that David E. Kelley's follow-up script is "just as enthralling."
