Posting funny videos or GIFs online is really popular on sites like Twitter and Instagram. But the European Parliament has approved a proposal that would make it unlawful to use any copyrighted material in these memes. The same would apply to YouTube videos. Sir Paul McCartney, James Blunt and Annie Lennox were amongst a group of 1,300 artists who asked the MEPs to support this new directive. On the other side of the fence were the Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales and the rapper and actor Wyclef Jean. Winifred Robinson finds out more. First broadcast on You & Yours, 12 September 2018.
