As the police struggle to attract Catholic officers, is it time for a return to 50/50 PSNI recruitment?

The Nolan Show

Available for over a year

Could Northern Ireland see a return to 50/50 police recruitment to increase the number of Catholic officers joining the force? 7 years on after the practice ended and Catholic recruits have stalled at 30%. 50/50 recruitment was, of course, used to correct an imbalance in the police which grew over the Troubles. But some unionist politicians criticised the practice as being discriminatory towards protestants. Stephen spoke to Dolores Kelly from the SDLP, TUV leader Jim Allister and Deputy Chief Constable Stephen Martin.
