'We are going to carry on doing business with the Saudis'

World Business Report

Available for over a year

The chandelier-studded ballroom of the Ritz Carlton Hotel on the outskirts of Riyadh is normally a place to be seen. But many global business and political leaders are staying away from a big conference taking place there. The Future Investment Initiative is designed to attract billions of dollars of foreign capital and help end Saudi dependence on oil. But the recent murder of the exiled Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, a critic of the country's rulers, has tainted the annual event. The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s Sebastian Usher is at the Riyadh conference, gauging the attendees' reactions.
