It's been quite a year for writer Liam McIlvanney. Last summer, he took a sabbatical from his job as professor of Scottish Studies in New Zealand - to return to Scotland with his wife and four sons. And in the six months which followed, he's been promoting his latest book The Quaker, which is loosely based on the Bible John murders, writing a new book and winning accolades, not least the McIlvanney award for crime writing, which was named for his own father, William McIlvanney, who many regard as the founding father of "tartan noir".
