Why do we love to blame someone when things go wrong?

The Why Factor

Available for over a year

When things go wrong, we crave something or someone to blame. It's an emotional response found in nearly every culture - but why is this something we all recognise? Sankalp Chaturvedi from London's Imperial College explains to Sandra Kanthal: 'Owning mistakes is not easy. The first response is, 'It's not me'... and the blaming game starts. And it's contagious. Just watching someone spreading the blame around makes it more likely that this will be copied by others.' Photo: Two people arguing (Credit: Getty Images)
