Where students' dreams turn into nightmares

World Business Report

Available for over a year

For decades, the economy of Northern Cyprus has struggled. Universities though have bucked the trend - they're booming. New ones have been opening at the rate of four or five a year. By the end of this year, there'll be more than 30 in what is a relatively small country. To fill all those the spaces, universities have been luring students from Africa and Asia - with the promise of cheap tuition fees, and an attractive Mediterranean climate. But as the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s Ivana Davidovic discovered, for some, the dream has turned to nightmare.
