True courage and leadership

Boston Calling

Available for over a year

In 1976, 13 year-old Benny Davidson was one of dozens of Israelis on a flight bound for Paris when two Palestinians and two Germans hijacked his plane and forced it to fly to Entebbe in Uganda. During the hostage standoff, the plane’s captain, Michel Bacos, refused to leave his passengers behind, even when given the chance. Many of the hostages, including Benny, still stay in touch. Recently, captain Michel Bacos died at the age of 95. Benny believes that Michel’s “personality and his bravery were out of this world.” (Captain Michel Bacos welcomed by his wife at Orly airport in Paris on July 5, 1976. Credit: AFP / Getty Images)
