Walmart expands its robot workforce

World Business Report

Available for over a year

Walmart, the world’s largest retailer, is increasing its non-human staff. The US giant has announced it will expand its use of in-store technology including robot stock checkers and floor cleaners. The possible savings are clearly attractive to large stores struggling to pay their wage bills, if not so great for humans who currently do this kind of work. Kate O’Neill, tech author and founder of KO Insights, explains how far this technology has come. (Picture: The Walmart logo outside one of its stores. Credit: Reuters)
