The great American poet and writer Walt Whitman was born on 31 May 1819. 200 years later to the day, Radio 3 Breakfast marks this anniversary with a reading from one of his most famous poems, Song of Myself. The reader is David Hounslow. The image is of a 37-year-old Whitman engraved on steel by Samuel Hollyer (1826-1919) after a daguerreotype by Gabriel Harrison (1818-1902).
