The 80s 'superwoman' who took her motorbike around the world

Newsday

Available for over a year

In 1982, at the age of 23, Elspeth Beard from England got on her motorbike and set off on a 56 thousand kilometre journey around the world, the first British woman to succeed in doing so. She'd been dumped by her boyfriend and done badly at her degree but instead of sinking into despair she decided to see the world by motorbike. She's written about her journey in a book being used to launch a new project called 'Super Women' - aimed at mentoring more women in film-making while telling the tales of inspiring women. Elspeth told us about her journey. (Picture: Elspeth Beard with bike. Credit: Elspeth Beard)
