GBBO's Candice Brown: 'Is there a snobbery towards apprenticeships?'

5 Live Breakfast

Available for over a year

Great British Bake Off winner Candice Brown investigates why more young people aren't taking up apprenticeships, particularly in areas like hospitality, as part of a special report on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio 5 Live. Government statistics show the number of people starting an apprenticeship in hospitality has almost halved in five years. Candice Brown used to be a secondary school teacher but now runs a pub with her brother. She thinks there is a snobbery towards apprenticeships which is adding to the hospitality industry's skills shortage. For her report she challenged two Year 10s from a high school in Luton to try a day's apprenticeship in a hotel kitchen, to see if she could open their minds to on-the-job learning. And Candice told Rachel Burden on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio 5 Live Breakfast why she was so passionate about apprenticeships.
