Astronomer Lisa Kaltenegger says telescopes currently being developed will soon be able to see whether GJ 357 d has life on its surface. The GJ 357 system has three planets that we know of. GJ 357 d is the third one from its sun and sits within the red star’s habitable zone. It could maintain liquid surface water under the right conditions. (Image: An illustration of planet GJ 357 d.
