Angelica and Shobhna - Reaping Rewards

The Listening Project

Available for over a year

Angelica is a barrister with her own practice chambers at the age of 27. Her mother Shobhna moved to the UK with her Indian family in the 1970s after Kenyan independence. From an affluent lifestyle in Kenya the family lived in one room at first and it was Shobhna’s mother (who had never had a job and married at 15) who went straight out to work, knowing only a couple of English phrases. She encouraged Shobhna (and in turn Angelica) to be independent and not rely on anyone else. Shobhna and her husband Anil have always encouraged Angelica and her brother Neil, a civil servant. to have broad interests and work hard in order to reap rewards – which has paid dividends. Angelica took this chance to acknowledge that.
