'People labelled me as promiscuous but I was exploited by adult men'

Woman's Hour

Available for over a year

In 2006 Cyntoia Brown-Long was sentenced to life imprisonment in the USA for killing a man. She was 16 when she shot Johnny Allen and, even though she was still a child, she was sentenced as an adult. Her case attracted a lot of attention when it was discovered she had been a victim of sex trafficking and, after serving fifteen years of her sentence, she was granted clemency in January and released on probation in August. When she was 12 she was charged with stealing and sent to an approved school. How did she get involved with a man known as Kut Throat who effectively became her pimp?
