Turned away from a bar for wearing a hijab

ѿý OS

Available for over a year

Soaliha Iqbal tried to go into a bar in Sydney, Australia when the doorman refused her entry unless she removed her hijab. She said that his actions left her humiliated and outraged. Since Soaliha posted online about the incident, the bar got in contact with her and said that they “unreservedly apologise" for the "mistake”. They said that it was the doorman’s first shift and he “no doubt wanted to impress” by “carrying out his duties and responsibilities diligently” to ensure facial recognition. Soaliha says that her face was not obscured and she is wearing a hijab in her ID photo. (Photo: Soaliha Iqbal. Credit: Soaliha Iqbal)
