Ashes for Ash Wednesday are made from burning the palm crosses given out last year on Palm Sunday. Rev Juliette Hulme of Tisbury was trying to make the ashes in her oven. But, in the words of Shaftesbury Fire Fighters they "turned their Palm Crosses to Ash rather more quickly than they had intended."
