This sonata was originally written for flute, but Prokofiev was persuaded to turn it into its finished form by world-renowned violinist David Oistrakh. A melodic first movement gives way to a light and energetic scherzo. Prokofiev was a jazz fan and so the 3rd movement has an unusual passage of blues-like reflection before a finale closes brings things to an upbeat conclusion. Composer: Sergei Prokofiev Performer: Alexandra Soumm (Violin) Performer: Aimo Pagin (Piano) Recording date: 13 December 2010 Date of broadcast: 07 April 2011
